Bielema expects struggles to lead to confidence

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Bret Bielema is counting on Arkansas’s struggles in overcoming Samford last week to help the team moving forward.

The Razorbacks (2-0) trailed in the fourth quarter against the Championship Subdivision Bulldogs before rallying for a 31-21 win behind a rushing attack that had 333 yards on 53 attempts.

Arkansas hosts a Southern Mississippi (0-2) team this week that is mired in a 14-game losing streak, though Bielema said the Razorbacks can’t overlook any opponent as they continue to take “baby steps” under their first-year coach.

While Arkansas managed to avoid another stunning loss in Little Rock, such as last year’s overtime shocker to Louisiana-Monroe, it must improve in the passing game.

Sophomore quarterback Brandon Allen was just 9-of-17 passing for 125 yards against Samford.
