The first patient at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center was a newborn transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit. Since then, the hospital’s NICU has cared for hundreds of premature babies.

Since the opening in August 2005, the NICU staff has held periodic reunions for these children and their families. The next reunion is this weekend.

The reunion is from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at April’s Garden (the third floor terrace) at Legacy Salmon Creek, 2211 N.E. 139th St.

All children cared for in the Legacy NICU and their families are invited to the event. The reunion will include games, prizes and refreshments. The event is free and no reservation is required.

“We grow very attached to these kiddos and their families,” said Kacia Gauthier, interim manager of the NICU. “It’s wonderful to see them again at these reunions, to see how they’ve grown and changed since their time with us.”
