CARSON — Catch-and-release steelhead fishing in the upper Wind River will not open as scheduled on Sept. 16.

A minimum of 500 wild steelhead is needed to allow the catch-and-release fishing from Sept. 16 through Nov. 30 between 100 feet upstream of Shipherd Falls to Moore Bridge.

The wild spawning run this summer is projected to be about 300 fish, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
