MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire has been ejected in the fourth inning of the Twins’ game against Oakland Athletics.
Gardenhire was thrown out after umpires huddled and awarded Jed Lowrie a two-run double after originally calling his line drive down the first-base line foul. Umpire Bill Miller had to dance out of the way of Lowrie’s hit as it landed in front of him and ruled it foul.
Lowrie objected, and Athletics manager Bob Melvin came out to argue.
Miller then huddled with the entire umpire crew for a couple of minutes. Once the conference was finished, crew chief Dale Scott awarded Lowrie a two-run double.
Gardenhire immediately came out of the Twins’ dugout and argued for close to five minutes with Scott and Miller, who eventually ejected the manager.
The Athletics scored 10 runs in the fourth to open a 13-1 lead Wednesday night.
