Letter: Use inmates to control weeds

The Columbian
Published: September 10, 2013, 5:00pm

I certainly agree with Joan Tyrrell’s position in her Sept. 4 letter, “Visions of livability collide,” where she addresses the unsightly weed problem that can be seen throughout our city.

It would be commendable if our dear mayor would pull his head out of the sand, step down from his ivory tower and take a stroll across the city. He will notice uncontrollable weed growth along sidewalks and medians. I am sure our dear mayor is educated enough to realize that weeds can be very destructive, even to concrete and asphalt.

Why is it not possible to utilize our incarcerated population, which is sparingly used for debris pickup, and assign them to an established weed control program? Our city certainly requires immediate attention.
