METAIRIE, La. (AP) — The New Orleans Saints have signed defensive end Jay Richardson, bolstering their defensive line following a left knee injury to end Tyrunn Walker in Week 1.
Coach Sean Payton said Thursday the club also waived receiver Andy Tanner to make room for Richardson.
Richardson was among New Orleans’ final cuts this preseason. Payton says he had told the veteran lineman there was a good chance he could return if the Saints needed more depth at his positions. Richardson can also play outside linebacker in the Saints’ 3-4 front.
The former Ohio State standout was a fifth-round draft pick by Oakland in 2007.
