JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Griffin Thomas kicked two field goals in overtime, including the game-winning 20-yarder, to lead Jacksonville State past North Alabama 24-21 in double overtime on Saturday night.

North Alabama’s upset bid was spoiled when Michael Schuster’s 37-yard field goal attempt was wide right.

Trailing 18-11 in the fourth quarter, North Alabama’s Luke Wingo threw a 5-yard touchdown to Lee Mayhall with 13 second remaining to send the game into overtime.

Jacksonville State’s (3-0) lone touchdown was a Troymaine Pope 53-yard pass to Markis Merrill in the first quarter.

North Alabama’s (1-1) Luke Wingo was 19 of 39 for 232 yards and two touchdowns — one rushing and one throwing. The Lions defense recorded two safeties.

It was the 45th meeting between the two schools, and the first since 2003.
