NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Taylor Heinicke passed for four touchdowns and rushed for another in the first half before being rested, leading Old Dominion past Howard 76-19 Saturday.

Heinicke, the 2012 Payton Award winner, hit 20 of 27 passes for 406 yards as Old Dominion (1-2) scored four times in the first quarter and three times in the second. The victory finally cracked the win column after opening the season with road losses to East Carolina and Maryland — the first two FBS teams the Monarchs have ever played.

Howard (1-2) was plagued by four turnovers — two fumbles lost and two interceptions. Greg McGhee completed 19 of 26 pass attempts for 215 yards. William Parker led the Bison with 17 carries for 85 yards.

David Washington subbed for Heinicke and hit 5 of 6 passes for 69 yards and 2 TDs. Zach Pascal led the Monarchs receivers with 113 yards on 8 catches.
