ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Athletics right-hander Jarrod Parker was a late scratch from his scheduled start against the Texas Rangers.
Less than an hour before Sunday’s series finale, AL West-leading Oakland said Parker (11-6) wouldn’t pitch because of illness. Left-hander Tommy Milone, who made his first career relief appearance Wednesday, took over as the starter.
Yoenis Cespedes, who was batting fourth and set to be the designated hitter in the original lineup, didn’t play because of a sore shoulder.
Parker is 9-0 in his last 19 starts since a loss at Texas on May 22.
His winning streak is the longest by an Oakland pitcher since Dan Haren won 10 in a row in 2008. The last Athletics pitcher with a longer unbeaten streak was Lefty Grove’s 21 starts in a row in 1931.
