TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Pac-12 Conference has reprimanded the officials for their handling of the closing seconds in Saturday’s game between Wisconsin and Arizona State.
The conference said the officials failed to act with appropriate urgency on the game’s final play, when Wisconsin quarterback Joel Stave took a knee at Arizona State’s 15-yard line.
Stave went down awkwardly after being clipped by a teammate and plopped the ball down on the middle of the field. Neither team was sure if he was down and Arizona State players jumped on it, thinking it was a fumble.
The Badgers tried to run a final play, but ran out of time and lost 32-30.
The Pac-12 said the officials did not quickly communicate that the ball was to be spotted so play could resume promptly.
