CAIRO (AP) — Senegal must go on the road for both legs of its World Cup qualifying playoff against Ivory Coast.
The Confederation of African Football imposed a one-year ban on Dakar’s Leopold Senghor Stadium following a riot last October during an African Cup of Nations qualifier against Ivory Coast, and the governing body says the penalty applies to Would Cup qualifiers. The 2012 game was stopped in the second half with Ivory Coast leading 2-0; Senegal was disqualified from the tournament and fined.
With a World Cup berth at stake, Ivory Coast will host the first leg of the total-goals series next month and the second leg will be played in a neutral nation in November.
