Letter: Generosity can transform lives

The Columbian
Published: September 17, 2013, 5:00pm

This may have gone unnoticed in the past week, with all of the other news. A local family’s nonprofit, the Colson Family Foundation, donated a gift of $5 million to Oregon Health & Science University to assist with new research and other efforts to find a cure for pancreatic cancer.

These kind of gifts are transformational and will impact so many lives in so many ways. For those of us who have lost family members to any type of cancer, these generous gifts continue to help with the battles that we face to find ways to cure or to stop the spread of cancer in our nation. I am thankful for this gift.
