EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Oregon coach Mark Helfrich and tight end Colt Lyerla have patched things up after a report that the tight end was upset with how his stomach flu last weekend was described as “circumstances.”
Lyerla missed Saturday’s 59-14 victory over Tennessee after he had been out for much of the previous week with a virus. As a policy, Oregon coaches don’t discuss injuries.
After the game, Helfrich said Lyerla missed the game because of “circumstances.” Reached later at home by The Oregonian, Lyerla said he felt that description could be unfairly interpreted.
Lyerla apologized after practice Monday for airing his frustration publicly and said he never meant to be a distraction. Both he and Helfrich say they discussed the matter and they’ve moved on.
