DETROIT (AP) — Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias has left Thursday’s game against the Seattle Mariners after with a bruised left hand after being hit by a pitch near the wrist.

Iglesias was doubled over in pain after Tom Wilhelmsen’s pitch caught him in the sixth inning. The Tigers said X-rays are negative and Iglesias is day to day.

Detroit acquired Iglesias from Boston in a trade shortly before shortstop Jhonny Peralta was suspended as part of Major League Baseball’s investigation into Biogenesis of America, a Florida anti-aging clinic accused of distributing banned performance-enhancing drugs.

Peralta is eligible to return Sept. 27, but the Tigers plan to keep Iglesias at shortstop and work out Peralta in the outfield.

Iglesias is hitting .310 and has provided smooth defense up the middle for Detroit.
