PHILADELPHIA (AP) — David Wright is back in the New York Mets lineup for the first time in more than a month and is already making an impact.
Wright was activated Friday from the disabled list before the Mets faced the Philadelphia Phillies and hit a two-run homer in the first inning in his first at-bat since he strained his right hamstring on Aug. 2 against the Kansas City Royals.
He was placed on the DL the next day.
Wright also smacked a two-run homer in the first inning the night he was injured, tying Mike Piazza for second place on the franchise’s home run list with his 220th. The All-Star third baseman now trails only Darryl Strawberry (252) on the Mets’ career list.
Wright was hitting .309 with 16 homers and 54 RBIs at the time of his injury.
