PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) — Three lightning scoring drives of about three minutes or less fueled Alcorn State to a 21-16 Southwest League victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday night.

Joe Price and Arnold Walker rushed for touchdowns from 53 and 5 yards, respectively, after halftime as Alcorn State (3-1, 2-0) fended off the Golden Lions (0-4, 0-2). The scoring drives spanned 1:44 and 2:56.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff closed to within five points on a 14-yard TD strike from Benjamin Anderson to Isaiah Ferguson with 9:07 remaining. The Golden Lions got the ball back and a chance to take the lead with about seven minutes left, but turned the ball over on downs after driving to Alcorn State’s 15.

Penalties hurt Arkansas-Pine Bluff, which was called 13 times for 98 yards.
