US women defeat Canada in NORCECA semifinal

RALSTON, Neb. (AP) — The U.S. women’s national volleyball team defeated Canada in straight sets to advance to the NORCECA championship match against the Dominican Republic.

Kelly Murphy had 12 points in the Americans’ 25-22, 25-14, 25-15 victory Friday night at Ralston arena. Jordan Larson-Burbach, a native Nebraskan, added 10 points with three aces.

The United States is the defending champion of the biennial continental tournament and has won six NORCECA titles. The winner of the championship match earns a spot in the six-team FIVB Grand Champions Cup in Japan Nov. 12-17.

Canada will play Puerto Rico for the bronze medal in the early match on Saturday.
