ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays have recalled pitcher Enny Romero from Triple-A Durham to make his major league debut against the Baltimore Orioles.
The Rays made the move to allow the 22-year-old to pitch in Sunday’s game between AL wild-card contenders.
Romero went 11-7 with Double-A Montgomery before joining Durham for one regular-season start Sept. 2, in which he threw eight scoreless innings against Norfolk. The left-hander also pitched out of the bullpen for Durham on Sept. 13 in the International League playoffs
Tampa Bay purchased the contract of right-hander J.D. Martin from Durham to provide additional bullpen depth.
The Rays are expected to activate reliever Jesse Crain, who has been sidelined by a right shoulder strain, from the 60-day disabled list Monday.
