On Nov. 5, Washougal voters have an opportunity they’ve never had before, a choice for new government. Proposition 1 is more than a change in our form of government, it is a different way of looking at how we govern.
Will we continue to change direction every few years as we toss out our part-time mayors and start all over again as they bring in their “agendas”? Or, will we adopt the council-manager plan, which promotes long-term stability with a competent, educated, professional city manager in partnership with the strong political leadership of our elected city council?
I’ve served on the Washougal council for the past 6.5 years, and I’ve seen our wonderful city go through many ups and downs. Our image has not always been positive or professional, but there is a better way.
Proposition 1 does away with the “politics as usual” at City Hall and supports a more consistent, stable administration.
