SALEM, Ore. — A 15-year-old South Salem High School student was arrested after administrators found a handgun in his backpack.

Police Lt. Dave Okada says there’s no indication he was targeting anyone Thursday at school. The gun was not loaded.

The Statesman Journal reports that the student may be expelled in addition to facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, possessing a firearm in a public building and possessing a stolen firearm.
