With the removal of an old freeway ramp ahead of schedule, the planned closure of northbound Interstate 205 tonight has been canceled, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Crews will still close both directions of I-205 in the Salmon Creek area Saturday night, according to WSDOT. Northbound I-205 will close from 10 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. The southbound side of the freeway will close from 10 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday.

Crews are removing a ramp that used to connect Northeast 134th Street to northbound Interstate 5. The ramp, which passed directly over I-205, is being demolished to make room for a new bridge at Northeast 139th Street as part of the $133 million Salmon Creek Interchange Project.

Saturday night’s closure will shut down a stretch of I-205 near 134th Street. The freeway will remain open to local traffic to the south, but WSDOT has encouraged drivers to avoid freeway travel during the closure if possible.
