SEATTLE — Puget Sound Energy has agreed to pay a $275,000 penalty for a gas safety complaint from a 2011 home explosion in Seattle that injured two.
The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission announced Thursday the utility agreed to the settlement. Under the settlement, PSE admits there were violations of gas-safety rules and the utility is not allowed to pass penalty costs to the customers.
The explosion caused a house fire, and two people were injured in Seattle’s Pinehurst neighborhood.
An investigation conducted by the commission concluded that the most likely cause of the explosion was natural gas leaking from a PSE service pipe outside the home. But the investigation could not rule out a gas leak in the customer’s pipes under the house.
