Willet wins Belmont’s Princess Dixie Stakes

NEW YORK (AP) — Willet held off Miss Valentine by a half-length Friday in the $98,000 Princess Dixie Stakes for New York-bred fillies and mares at Belmont Park.

The 3-5 favorite following her win in the Union Avenue Stakes at Saratoga, Willet improved to 6 for 12 for trainer and co-owner James Iselin. Angel Arroyo was aboard as the 5-year-old ran 612 furlongs in 1:30.71, paying $3.20, $2.10 and $2.10.

Miss Valentine, the 5-2 second choice, returned $2.80 and $2.10 while Mischief Maker paid $2.20 to show.
