BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) — Lucas Beatty led a dominant Gardner-Webb offense, throwing for 223 yards and two touchdowns, in a 55-7 win over Point in the first-ever meeting between the schools Saturday.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs (4-1) jumped to a quick lead, highlighted by a 37-yard interception return for a touchdown from Keon Williams that made the score 21-0 early in the second quarter.

The Skyhawks (2-2) cut into the deficit with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Jeremy Uzee to Anthony Armstrong, but Beatty responded with a 24-yard touchdown pass to help build a 31-7 halftime advantage.

Gardner-Webb ran away with the game in the second half, scoring 24 points including two rushing touchdowns from Rodrick Talley.

Beatty was 21-for-25 passing and Talley logged 116 yards rushing to lead the Runnin’ Bulldogs’ offense.

Gardner-Webb’s defense was also a strongpoint, intercepting Uzee on four occasions and holding Point to 166 yards of total offense.
