Rhode Island rolls over CCSU, 42-7

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — Justin Semmes rushed for more than 100 yards and two touchdowns for Rhode Island to secure a 42-7 victory against Central Connecticut State University Saturday.

Semmes rushed 18 times and picked up the first touchdown of the game and another in the third quarter, finishing with 114 yards for the Rams (2-3). Bob Bentsen threw a pair of touchdown passes in the first two quarters to make the score 21-0 at the half. He completed 11 of 20 passes for 168 yards.

CCSU’s Andrew Clements threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Matt Braddock in the fourth quarter, spoiling a Rhode Island shutout with about 10 minutes to play.

Clements passed for 143 yards for the Blue Devils (1-4) but threw three interceptions, including one that was returned 43 yards in the third quarter for a touchdown. Darius Lee led the Blue Devils in rushing with 14 carries for 83 yards.
