Broadway Empire wins Oklahoma Derby

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Broadway Empire led from start to finish in a four-length victory Sunday in the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park.

Off at 3-1 odds, Broadway Empire jumped to a quick lead wasn’t challenged in the stretch. Heavy favorite Departing, the winner of Illinois, West Virginia and Super Derbies, finished fourth after starting at 1-5 odds.

Cameo Appearance was second, followed by Carve.

Trained by Robertino Diodoro and ridden by Rico Walcott, Broadway Empire won the Canadian Derby in his last start and has won four of six races as a 3-year-old.

He ran 1 1/8 miles on the fast track in 1:49.44 and paid $8.80 to win.
