KELSO — Authorities believe a missing kayaker on the Lewis River is dead.

The Daily News of Longview reports that 32-year-old Thad Roberts was presumed drowned after an extensive search failed to find him Sunday.

Roberts and friends were using kayaks for salmon fishing Saturday on the north fork of the Lewis River. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office says Roberts became separated from others in the group at some point during the day and that the friends noticed he was missing around dusk.

Crews found Roberts’ kayak downstream from his last known location, and his life jacket was found on board. There was no sign of Roberts.
