A semitrailer lost its load of 20 metal pipes Monday as it rounded a corner on state Highway 14 near Washougal.

The accident was reported around 3:30 p.m. just inside Skamania County at Milepost 24. Gabriel Espinoza, 51, of Wapato was driving a 1998 Volvo tractor eastbound on the highway. As the tractor rounded a corner, the load shifted, causing the tractor to cross into the westbound lanes. The straps holding down the load then broke, spilling 35-foot-long pipes onto the roadway, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The westbound lane was temporarily blocked while crews with the Washington State Department of Transportation cleared the roadway.

Espinoza was cited by the state patrol for allegedly failing to secure his load.

No one was injured in the incident.
