PORTLAND — Portland police launch a new unit Tuesday to focus on what police call low-level crimes along the downtown waterfront: public drunkenness, minor drug deals, public urination and harassment.

KOIN reports officers will patrol on foot, bike, patrol cars, and even all-terrain vehicles.

Central Precinct Commander Bob Day says the new focus on misdemeanor crimes won’t take resources away from more-serious crimes.
