CORVALLIS, Ore. — A herd of 175 starving alpacas that was rescued in December from a Polk County ranch is recovering at the Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

The university says they have regain strength and many have been adopted through the Cross Creek Alpaca Rescue in Tenino, Wash. Two of the impounded animals died.

Meanwhile, the Statesman Journal reports (http://stjr.nl/1ln61ke ) the owners who lost control of the herd at Jocelyn’s Alpacas Ranch in Falls City, Jocelyn and Robert Silver, are scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Monday in Dallas on animal neglect charges.
