MEDFORD — Firefighters could only watch as flames destroyed a home in the Applegate community west of Medford after their truck became stuck on an old bridge on the homeowner’s property.

Applegate Fire Chief Brett Fillis says a tire broke through the wood decking on the private bridge Tuesday night within sight of the fire.

Mail Tribune reports the home was a total loss, estimated at $400,000. The owner escaped and no one was injured.

Firefighters dumped water out of the truck to reduce its weight, and it was pulled off the bridge by two tow trucks with no damage to the vehicle.
