Letter: Correct court decision

The Columbian
Published: April 7, 2014, 5:00pm

I’m writing in support of Washington state’s Initiative 1329. This effort to amend our Constitution is not political. It is not about politicians or parties, selling dope or rerouting trains. It is about ethics, and corruption at the highest levels of our government. It is about the undermining of our democracy and the shameful abuse of our Bill of Rights by wealthy special interest groups.

We all have a civic duty to correct this injustice by restoring a democracy that works for all the people. By telling corporations they are not the same as real people, it is still one person, one vote, not one dollar, one vote.

This is not political, it’s about our children’s future. It is about what the Greeks called “necessary participation” in the affairs of government. It is about kicking over the money-changers’ table. It is a responsibility of citizenship.
