Vancouver resident Nino Ayala scored a goal as Spartans Futbol Club opened its National Premier Soccer League season on Saturday with a 4-1 win over Gorge FC of Hood River, Ore.

Spartans FC is a first-year member of the NPSL, a men’s soccer league on the fourth tier of the U.S. Soccer pyramid. The club has ownership and coaching ties to Vancouver, but is playing home matches at Concordia in order to meet NPSL stadium requirements.

The Spartans play at Inter United of Tukwila on April 12 and at Seattle Sporting on April 19. Their next home match is April 26 against Gorge FC.
