Letter: Rise in teen drinking critical

The Columbian
Published: April 12, 2014, 5:00pm

Teen drinking is very bad but common all around the country. More than 50 percent of eighth-graders and older students have tried alcohol at one point in their life. One percent of 10th-graders have been drinking alcohol daily for at least one month, and nearly 3 percent of 12th-graders drink on a daily basis.

Some teens drink to be cool or to fit in; other teens drink because they are depressed or want to let loose, have fun. Other teens give in to peer pressure.

Teen drinking is illegal as well as unsafe. Drinking at any age can lead to death, car crashes, disease and brain damage.

Be safe and don’t drink.
