Alex Firl of La Center boys soccer was voted The Columbian’s high school spring sports athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the two-week period ending April 12.
Firl collected 43 percent of the 2,188 votes cast by fans to beat out Seth Rayburn, who had 40 percent.Firl scored three goals and added an assist in a league win over Toledo/Winlock.
The other nominees were Jossilyn Blackman of Battle Ground girls track and field, Katie Schroeder of Camas softball and Eli Whitmire of Woodland boys track and field.
Nominees and the online ballot are posted at www.360preps.com each Monday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Thursday.
Athletes may be elected player of the week once during the regular season, and no athlete can be nominated for the honor in consecutive weeks.
