Letter: Nutrition at young age improves life

The Columbian
Published: April 18, 2014, 5:00pm

Our school lunches at my middle school are terrible at times and halfway decent on good days. Most school lunches are presumed to be healthful and nutritious, when in fact many of these lunches are pre-made in factories, being so processed they are completely void of any nutrients.

Proper nutrition is important. Omega-3 supplements have been proven in some cases to give young children’s cortex, a part of the brain, an opportunity to heal when damaged. A unhealthy cortex can lead to psychotic tendencies. According to several psychological studies, younger children with psychotic tendencies can have a chance to be saved from becoming full-blown psychopaths when they are older. The omega-3s do this by giving the brain more fatty acids to use to help repair the damage done by malnutrition or starvation. Lunches with more nutrients like omega-3 can help reduce psychotic behavior.
