Jared Berg of Mountain View soccer was voted The Columbian’s high school spring athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending April 19.

Berg collected 78 percent of the 300 votes cast by fans to beat out James Phillips of Prairie, who had 8 percent.

Berg scored five goals in two wins, including two in a come-from-behind win against Hudson’s Bay.

The other nominees were Shannon Boyle of Ridgefield softball, Bridget Standard of Fort Vancouver golf and Julia Stepper of Woodland track and field.

Nominees and the online ballot are posted at www.360preps.com each Monday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Athletes may be elected athlete of the week once during the regular season, and no athlete can be nominated for the honor in consecutive weeks.
