Arson detectives from the Vancouver Police Department are investigating two cases of suspicious devices left in public places within the past two weeks.

Both devices were described as plastic bottles containing foaming liquid and other metal pieces, said Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

The first bottle was found April 20 at Father Blanchet Park and the second was found April 25 near MacArthur Boulevard and Birmingham Way, Kapp said.

In both cases, passers-by noticed the suspicious bottle and called 911. Both bottles were destroyed by responding officers with the explosive disposal unit.

“Citizens did exactly the right thing by noting that it just looked unusual. It clearly wasn’t just a Gatorade bottle or pop bottle,” Kapp said. “This is a good reminder to not pick up anything suspicious and to call 911 right away.”
