Washougal — A Hathaway Elementary School girl with Type 1 diabetes represented her state at the U.S. Capitol for Diabetes Awareness Day in March.

Paige Maas was selected for the trip by the American Diabetes Association. During her visit to Washington, D.C., the girl and her father, Brad, visited with lawmakers including U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas.

Paige was there to advocate for greater funding to battle diabetes. Last year she visited the Washington Capitol on an Advocacy Day. She also is involved with the Tour de Cure cycling fundraiser.
