A Longview area man apparently shot his wife before taking his own life, according to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities reported that they received a 911 call shortly after midnight Tuesday from a 10-year-old child who said that his dad just shot his mom.

Deputies responded to 244 Niemi Rd. west of Longview and were able to get several children and their mother out of the house. The woman, Chante Marie Milian, 27, was shot once in the back and was taken to St. John Hospital where deputies say she is believed to be in stable condition.

Miguel Milian, 30, Chantte Milian’s estranged husband, was found deceased in a room upstairs of the house, deputies said.

Authorities said that the suspect called a friend and said he had shot his wife and was going to shoot himself. The Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office will investigate the cause and manner of death of Miguel Milian.

The children were not injured and were turned over to a family member.
