A burnt pickup was found amid a grass fire the size of a football field early Wednesday near Vancouver Lake.

Firefighters doused the blaze, first reported at 3:08 a.m. at 10560 N.W. Erwin O. Rieger Memorial Highway.

Though the cause of the blaze is so far undetermined, Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Curtis Eavenson said that it appears the pickup crashed into a ditch while driving on a dirt road in the area.

“It was so far destroyed from the fire that it’s hard to say exactly how the fire began,” he said.

The agency is working with Washington State Patrol to track down the vehicle’s owner.
