SPOKANE — The participation of Providence Health Care in a clinic planned for Washington State University’s Spokane campus could prevent patients from obtaining birth control or other reproductive services.

That’s according to the American Civil Liberties Union.

The Spokesman-Review reports that WSU has partnered with Providence Health to create the Spokane Teaching Health Center to provide health care to low-income patients.

The ACLU wrote to WSU regents on Wednesday, urging them to withhold financial support for the clinic unless a full range of services is offered, unrestricted by religion.

WSU Spokane spokeswoman Terren Roloff declined comment.

The regents are expected to decide at a September meeting whether to sell revenue bonds to finance construction of the clinic.
