A Camas homeowner confronted a stranger in his home Tuesday, interrupting a reported robbery.

The man allegedly pointed a small, silver handgun at the homeowner and then ran out of the house, said Camas police Sgt. Scot Boyles. He drove away in a small, silver, two-door pickup toward Lacamas Lake.

The incident was reported at 1:28 p.m. in the 3700 block of Northwest Astor Street. Camas police did an extensive search of the area, but did not find the pickup or the suspect, who was described as a white man in his late 20s, Boyles said.

Investigators aren’t sure what exactly unfolded and what the man intended to do inside the house. Although dispatched as a robbery, what happened may be considered a burglary with a weapon, Boyles said.

The Camas Police Department is investigating the incident.
