Fort Vancouver National Historic Site will present a new community health event Saturday: the National Park Prescription Program.

The 10 a.m. event will be at Pearson Air Museum, 1115 East Reserve St.

The Park Prescription Program is an innovative partnership between health care providers and the National Park Service that encourages outdoor exercise as a way to improve health.

At the free event, doctors, patients and community members will enjoy free coffee, healthy breakfast foods and the opportunity to meet others interested in outdoor activities as a natural way to improve health.

It will conclude with a ranger-led hike on the Spruce Mill Trail.

Free monthly ranger-led walks, designed to exercise visitors’ brains as well as their bodies, will be introduced soon; details will be on the Fort Vancouver website, www.nps.gov.
