Letter: Deaths invite protest

The Columbian
Published: December 8, 2014, 12:00am

So now we have a grand jury not indicting the officer who killed Eric Garner. Lest people think the case of Garner was not a murder, the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the official cause of his death, a chokehold, was homicide. Between Eric Garner, Michael Brown and Tamir Rice (the 12-year-old in Cleveland who was shot and killed by a police officer seconds after the officer left his car), I am reminded of a quotation from one of our Founding Fathers: “I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever,” Thomas Jefferson, 1781.

And people wonder why there are protests.
