PULLMAN — DaVonte Lacy led four Washington State players in double figures with 22 points in a 90-83 victory over UC Davis on Sunday.

Josh Hawkinson had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars, who evened their record at 6-6 heading into Pac-12 Conference play. Que Johnson added 14 points, and Jordan Railey had 12.

Corey Hawkins led UC Davis (9-2) with 29 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals. The Aggies trailed by double figures most of the game after missing 13 of their first 16 shots.

The Cougars sank 11 of their first 19 shots, including 7 of 9 from 3-point range, to lead 30-8 after 13 minutes.

UC Davis, ranked 12th nationally in field goal percentage through Saturday, finished strong in both halves to shoot 55.9 percent (56.3 on 3-pointers). WSU hit 54.4 percent, including 11 of 19 from 3-point range.

The Cougars overcame 19 turnovers thanks in part to a 34-23 advantage in rebounds. Freshman Ny Redding made a game-high eight turnovers for the Cougars.

Hawkins, the son of former NBA sharpshooter Hersey Hawkins, sank 12 of 22 shots to improve his season scoring average to 20.9. He started the day ranked 16th in the nation with 20.1 points per game.

Hawkinson’s double-double was his fourth straight and seventh for the season. The 6-foot-10 forward is averaging 15.7 points and 10.5 rebounds one year after averaging 1.2 points and 1.6 rebounds as a little-used freshman under former WSU coach Ken Bone.

The Cougars are averaging 71.8 points per game under former Oregon coach Ernie Kent, who places a strong emphasis on up-tempo offense. Last season, Washington State finished a distant last in the Pac-12 in scoring at 62.4.
