The decision by U.S. District Judge Barbara J. Rothstein to allow the Cowlitz Indian Tribe to move forward with a casino near La Center is unethical and illegal. She failed to acknowledge that casino gambling is illegal in Washington state, building a major complex in the middle of farmland violates Clark County law, and allowing only Native Americans to operate casinos violates reverse discrimination laws.
When casinos were located on true native land reservations, they were separate from mainline American society and were often in remote locations. Now that the feds are allowing new “casino reservations” to be located essentially anywhere, reverse discrimination comes into play.
There is also the issue about traditional American values. Casino gambling is illegal in most states because the U.S. was founded by highly principled people. The feds involved in this case do not have the right to bring their unethical culture into society and force it on decent Americans.
Clark County should appeal the decision. And additional lawsuits should be brought in the areas of reverse discrimination, traditional American values, and feds pushing a program beyond its original intent.
