SEATTLE — A campaign has started to raise the $25,000 to fix glass panes broken by people who climbed on the Pergola in Seattle’s Pioneer Square to celebrate the Seahawks Super Bowl victory.

The gofundme.com website said more than $2,000 had been raised by Tuesday morning.

The Seattle Parks Department said 20 panes were broken on the century-old ornate glass archway.

Spokeswoman, Joelle Hammerstad, says each pane has to be specially made to historic specifications. In addition, she says climbers damaged copper flashing, and the whole thing has to be spray-washed and painted to clean up graffiti.

The Pergola was originally built to cover an underground restroom. The whole structure was rebuilt after it was knocked down by a truck in 2001.
