Letter: Movement hits reality resistance

The Columbian
Published: February 2, 2014, 4:00pm

Writer Irving Kristol, a founding father of “neo-conservatism” philosophy, once defined a neo-con as “a liberal who has been mugged by reality.” Then the neo-cons got mugged by the reality of the Iraq War.

How come these unlucky fellows keep on going around and getting mugged? No matter what name they call themselves, they still end up flat on the ground with bumps on their heads, waiting for paramedics to arrive. Clearly the real world is too dangerous for them to navigate. They could call themselves “ninjas” but still have that bad luck, I’m afraid.
