Do you have a missed phone call on your cell phone from an area code that you don’t recognize? Scam artists are calling random mobile numbers around the U.S., looking to bank on international calling fees.

The scammer disconnects after the phone rings once, hoping you will call their number back, so they can charge you $19.95 for an international call fee and an additional $9 per minute, according to the Washington State Attorney General.

People have reported getting calls from Antigua or Barbuda (area code 268); the Dominican Republic (809); Jamaica (876); the British Virgin Islands (284); and Grenada (473).

The Washington State Attorney General advises against answering and returning calls from unknown mobile numbers. A legitimate caller will leave a voicemail.
